May Pastor’s News

Warm greetings in the Name of the Risen Savior!

Thanks be to God for a Spirit-filled and empowering Rise Up! Revival! I give thanks to God for Rev. Gary Williams for his powerful message. I give thanks to God for the Bellemont UMC Praise Band for their inspiring music. I give thanks to God for Rev. Al Trotter, Sound/Video Team, Prayer Team, Women in God’s Service, United Methodist Men and everyone who offered their prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness. Most of all, I give thanks to God for people whose spirits were revived! I give thanks to God for lives that were transformed through the life-giving power of the Resurrected Christ!

With that being said, revival does not end on April 16th!  In fact, the spirit of revival continues on as God’s Spirit moves us, makes us hungry into the presence of God and transforms us to be His fearless disciples. The revival continues on as God’s Spirit empowers us to be the incarnate presence of Jesus, and serving as His hands and feet to our communities and beyond.

On Saturday, May 19th, I would like to invite everyone to come and join us for the 1st Annual Spiritual Retreat @ Northwest District Park in Siler City. This retreat dubbed “Holy Spirit, Set us Ablaze!” will be grounded on Pentecost theme from Acts 2. This retreat is open to everyone of all ages young and old, free of charge. This retreat will be a great follow-up experience from the Easter season and our 2-night revival.

Many of our fearless leaders and members are running fast in terms of the moving forward, following Jesus in His desire to move Davis Street from stagnancy and decline towards becoming a growing and thriving congregation. We developed a clear sense of God’s vision and mission. We are aligning our leadership, resources and ministries to the God’s vision and mission. We moved to consensus-building decision making process. We got leaders involved with “Shift” and “Fresh Expressions.” We launched the 8:45am Missional Community, the He-Brews Coffee Ministry and New Consecration Sunday Stewardship Campaign. We are now in the process of developing our Discipleship Pathway that will move us from “membership” to “discipleship.”

Therefore, the May 19th Spirit Retreat will give us great opportunity to “pause” from the “fast mode”— refueling our physical, emotional and spiritual energies so that we can be ready for the long journey of fearlessly shifting God’s church as we move forward. The retreat will offer spiritual disciplines such as Praise & Worship, Sabbath Living, Storytelling, Labyrinth, Prayer Walk and Encounter w/ God’s Creation. We’re going to be blessed with the leadership  provided by Denise Baker (Corridor District Lay Leader), Ivy Parker (Sabbath Living) and Jane Brannock (Director of Children & Family Ministries).

It is my prayer and hope that you will come out from the retreat receiving more power than just willpower in your life. You need God’s Spirit in your life! We cannot live a transformed life without God’s Spirit! We cannot be the church that is shifting towards vitality and growth without God’s Spirit! We cannot be the church that is birthing fresh expressions movement without God’s Spirit!  Indeed, may God’s Spirit set us ablaze!
